A look behind the guy on the billboard
Bo Nix is the star, but Oregon's depth at quarterback finds itself in a good place with Ty Thompson and Austin Novosad.
EUGENE — Ty Thompson’s face isn’t on a Manhattan billboard.
Technically, Bo Nix’s isn’t either. From our friend Zach Neel of Ducks Wire:
Point remains, it wasn’t too long ago that Oregon fans would have volunteered to paint a mural of Thompson, the former four-star quarterback in the 2021 class who remains the highest-rated QB to sign with the Ducks. Instead, this week that honor is bestowed upon Nix, the fifth-year senior who transferred to Oregon from Auburn in 2022, took his place above Thompson on the depth chart and began carving himself out one of those careers.
You know, the ones where people have to write about what happens after you’re gone.
So yes, Thompson is very aware of what is possible for someone who transfers.
Transfer.
Transfer.
Transfer.
It’s seemingly all Thompson hears about.
To be fair, he fits the mold. A former highly-touted recruit who has been buried on the depth chart? In 2023? Come on down!
“In this day and age, it’s not that weird because if something doesn’t go their way people do jump ship,” Thompson said earlier this month. “That’s not even to say things haven’t gone my way here, but obviously this isn’t the way I pictured my time here going.”
