Breaking up is hard to do: Goodbye, Stanford
As Oregon flies through its final season in the Pac-12, The I-5 Corridor pays respect to the opponents the Ducks face for the final time.
The unfortunate truth to a marvelous Pac-12 season: The goodbyes are coming.
Just last week, the Oregon Ducks sent the Colorado Buffaloes off to the Big 12 with a heartfelt 42-6 thumping, a nice little video tribute and a ticket out of the top 25.
So, maybe the loss of this budding rivalry between the Ducks and Buffaloes doesn’t have college football purists weeping, but be sure: the waterworks are coming.
This week, the Ducks say goodbye to Stanford, who will soon call the ACC home. Then it’s so long to Washington State, Utah, Cal, Arizona State and, well, we’re not ready to go there with that last one quite yet.
Yes, the Ducks will take longtime rivals Washington, USC and UCLA with them to the Big Ten, but over the next two months they’ll be saying goodbye to decades of rivalries, relationships and stories with their longtime competitors here from the Pacific Coast.
It’s going to hurt, so we’re going to do as we do best: Milk the pain out over the course of the next two months with a collection of stories, quotes and stats.
Today, we’re saying so long to what was once the best rivalry this side of the Mississippi.
