When the former Oklahoma quarterback landed in Oregon, he talked with Bo Nix about how to get in extra work with teammates between practice sessions. He spoke at length with fellow Hawaiian Marcus Mariota, who Gabriel idolized growing up, leaning on the former Heisman winner for advice on living in Eugene. And, when Gabriel takes the field at Autzen this fall, he’ll be doing so in front of a fan base conditioned to watch a mercenary go to work.

And they were a couple of wins against Washington away from building a statue of Nix, who Gabriel replaces this season for a one-year ride. Plus, having already transferred from UCF to Oklahoma earlier in his career, Gabriel says he’s about as prepared as possible for his final season of college ball.
