Nice nice work, Tyson. I think you captured him perfectly. I’ve had the pleasure of serving in a couple of Oregon related alumni things with him. He’s been very generous with his time and is a charming and droll in real life as he is on air. He’s one of the good guys. I’m sure we will see more great things from him in post-ESPN career.

Neil always sounds “genuine.” I have never met him, but a fellow sportscasting friend has talked to him regularly. He doesn’t wear a phony persona. Neil is as advertised, and Oregon is glad to claim him.

Neil needs to see this story somehow. I think it would mean a lot to him. It would to me!

Thanks for sharing, Tyson. Love, love LOVE Neil Everett. ESPN's loss is Portland's gain.

Thanks, Tyson. My favorite view of Neil is him dancing in the party clip where Mariota smashes the guitar.

I grew up down the street from Neil Everett's dad, though I didn't realize it until later because Everett is a stage name. I was best friends with his half-brother. I don't recall if Neil Jr. ever came around (his dad is also named Neil), but years later, when I was watching him on SportsCenter, I remember thinking, "Damn, that guy looks and sounds exactly like my friend's dad." And it was still years later before my mom clued me in on the connection.

Anyhow, his dad was always cool to me and I've only heard great things about Neil. Thanks for the story.
