My grandparents got married in 1951 while my grandpa played football for Oregon State College. He passed earlier this year and left a longgg line of Beavers (and Ducks) behind him. A few of us (Ducks) watched the game yesterday with my Grandma (Beaver), who told me it was the first Civil War she had watched without my grandpa since the 1940s.
AWESOME piece Tyson. My very first Autzen experience was the cold, miserable (and literally quite terrible) 0-0 Toilet Bowl rivalry game in 1983. Your description of yesterday brought back that memory and so many more great Ducks-Beavers November classics. The football tides have shifted, but the game- no matter when it’s played- still has individual meaning to all of us.
Excellent game article, great style, and thank you for painting the picture beautifully for us fans no longer in the state! Ducks-Beavs is special, even if it’s weird.
Loved this one, Tyson! It truly was weird to see this this game in mid-September. For my part I hope the games continue...today was one-sided but no more so than many past CWs. It's still a special thing to play the Beavers.
Tyson, you deserved a better era of sports journalism. Your writing is witty, informative and at the start it felt a little angry. It’s the best writing in Oregon media.
If the civil war is discontinued in the future, Oregon is fine. They’ve got Washington as a rivalry. Can Oregon state build a real rivalry with wazzu? Idk.
This is some damn good writing. I should've subscribed sooner.
Great article! The "This isn’t the week for that, Dave." might've been my favorite part.
Really great.

We’ll still look forward to the next one!

UO vs OSU in warm, sunny weather? Fun article BTW.
Excellent piece.
Loved this perspective and format. Great game!
What a great piece of journalism. Don't think I have ever seen a sports story written from this perspective. Nice work Tyson!!
Thank you for this personal and visceral account of the day. Love it!
