Sweet Cheeks Winery will be without a wedding this weekend.

October is Nora Sheils’ Super Bowl.

“Nationwide, October is the busiest month when it comes to weddings,” said Sheils, the founder of Bridal Bliss Event Planning in Portland. “And it’s still so beautiful here in the Pacific Northwest that we see a lot of weddings in October.”

Saturday, in fact, is expected to be 75, dry and sunny throughout the Willamette Valley, making it, on any other occasion, an ideal day to say “I Do.” But there’s one thing slightly different about planning weddings here this October for Sheils and her crew: there’s that football game.

See, the No. 3 Ducks are hosting the No. 2 Buckeyes in Eugene on Saturday, a game that’s long been sold out and has caused an influx of travelers to the state. Rental cars are booked. Hotel prices are jacked up. And around the country, a whole lot of eyeballs are going to want to tune into one of the most anticipated matchups of the college football season.

That includes attendees at every wedding venue up and down the I-5 Corridor.

“The biggest thing that we experience when it comes to games like this is a lot of people will have their phones out streaming the game,” Sheils said.
