The PK Diaries: Phil, Sabrina and top-25 basketball come to the neighborhood
A Thanksgiving spent with Uncle Phil, the GOAT and 800 of our closest friends.
PORTLAND — The turkey is good. No complaints.
The PK80 had an admirable food spread last time at Thanksgiving and here five years later it doesn’t disappoint. The to-go box makes it easy to manage the turkey, potatoes, miniature pumpkin pie and Coca-Cola back at my seat in a makeshift press row here at the Chiles Center.
I’ve lived in this area for the better part of the last 10 years and never set foot in this dome. The purple seats look great — especially contrasting the orange of the court.
No. 18 Oregon is leading No. 8 North Carolina in the second half of a game the Ducks will eventually lose, but things are tight, coach Kelly Graves is animated on the sideline and the Ducks are playing with fire absent the last few seasons.
Really, it’s been missing since Sabrina Ionescu left and, coincidently, she’s sitting right there courtside next to the man of the weekend, Phil Knight.
I wasn’t expecting him to be here this afternoon. It feels weird enough that top-25 basketball is happening up near St. Johns — I wasn’t ready for the billionaire to be in my neighborhood.
