The Portland Timbers aren’t having fun yet
What appeared to be a step forward for the club is stymied by a late goal and no call.
PORTLAND — Phil Neville’s philosophy isn’t too complicated.
Win, lose or draw, the Portland Timbers’ manager wants his club to leave an impact. He wants the fans that show up to Providence Park to be awed, to have an appreciation for the effort and to leave believing something memorable happened.
It was the saving grace to an up-and-down 2024 season for the Timbers, where the team didn’t win nearly as many games as Neville or the club’s brass wanted, but at least it wasn’t short on highlight moments.
“You think back to some of the experiences we had last year, I think whether we won or lost, people left this stadium having had fun and (were) entertained,” Neville said. “That’s what I want from my team.”
