NCAA rule book says that play was obstruction- just as the home plate umpire called it. If the catcher does not possess the ball- he is not allowed to blocked the plate. Run scores. No out. No runner moved back, no suspension of Oregon player, rally still going.
Great photos! Crappy ending…you can call him out but to eject him & now he can’t play today, that’s just too much for this fan to handle. Ducks need to come out firing today. Need strong pitching, hitting & no errors. Go Ducks, finish strong!
I’m admittedly not much of a baseball fan, what the current generation would call a “casual”. However, over the years, I have watched more than a few games. That being said, unless the game has changed in a way that I’m not aware of, that call at the plate goes every time to the runner. Every time. Catcher fails to field the throw from the outfield. Catcher then obstructs the plate, runner charges, knocks through him, touches the base, run scored. Am I missing something here? This egregious call dovetails into the trend that unfortunately seems to be seeping into the rulebooks, including the NBA. There are no more hard fouls, only malicious intent/flagrant fouls, exacerbated by lengthy reviews that sap all the energy from the contest, fans and players alike. I’m not advocating for a return to the ugliness of the 1990s NBA, or helmet to helmet contact by a defensive back to an unsuspecting receiver. However, this call seems to be leavening the game into a game without thorns, and one which was never was mistaken as a contact sport to begin with. Bottom line? This call was just atrocious.

Ducks we’re robbed by “Pittsburg” umpires!
. Proud of how the coach handled it and Aroz. Gads, can an Oregon team catch a break?
