Comparing Oregon State to Oregon is misguided. Oregon, along with Arkansas, are two small market teams that excel due to a single large donor (akin to a billionaire owner in a small market NBA team). They are outliers. You can't adopt a billionaire booster. They adopt you. I think Oregon State could borrow elements of Oregon's marketing. I'd like to see if they could do some joint marketing with NVIDIA around esports. Don't expect NVIDIA to become Oregon's Nike. Oram's article, like most beat reporters, shows a lack of understanding of the business side of sports. Don't blame Oram for missing the mark. He didn't ask to be on the business beat.
It always cracks me up when i read a comment on how Phil Knight and Nike pay for everything. Fact: Phil Knight, along with Oregon track coach, Bill Bowerman founded Nike. Fact: It is Phil Knight’s money, not Nike.
